Staff are only employed after a thorough short listing and interview process and after the receipt of 2 favourable references. No staff are employed without supplying a suitable Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check. All staff are on probation for 6 months and receive regular supervision and appraisal.

All staff undertakes an induction programme on starting at The Drive. Thereafter they complete a training programme that equips them with the skills and knowledge necessary to provide a high standard of quality care. The Drive has a commitment to training and staff are encouraged with personal development through attendance at recognised training courses and via hands-on learning and supervision.

Staff meet monthly to discuss service users and house issues, and receive formal supervision and appraisal of their work. There are also formal handovers between shifts at which the subsequent shift is planned and the needs of the service users discussed.

There is a minimum of four support staff on duty during the daytime with management support. At night there are two staff on duty, with a back up on call system.

The role of support staff is to support and enable the service users to develop their individual skills and competences within a daily and weekly programme of activities, based on individual care plans. Support staff will co-ordinate, develop, implement and monitor individual care plans under management supervision, working closely with the multi disciplinary team. Staff also oversee the physical, social and emotional support of service users.
